Start A House Cleaning Business

By David Mattins
Everybody wants to live in a clean house. There’s nothing like having guests over and having them say: “Oh, wow, your house is spotless.” Among other things of course. Unfortunately, not everybody has the time or the inclination to keep their house clean. There is just so much to do: work, school, and drive the kids to daycare. It just gets pushed down the list.

Here’s where you come in. For every person that keeps their house spotless, there’s a person who’d rather not. Someone who’s either too tired, too busy or too caught up in other things to keep their house clean. That someone could be the someone who will be willing to pay you to clean for them.

Starting a house cleaning business may seem like a strange idea for a job but think about it: people live in houses. Houses get dirty. It’s inevitable. Dust settles on furniture. Mud gets tracked in. Some people hate cleaning. If you enjoy a job well-done and would love to have your own business, then a house cleaning business might be the perfect way for you to become your own boss.

Starting a house cleaning business may be daunting but here a few easy steps that you can follow to successfully start your own business!

1. Plan it out. Planning out your business is the first step that you should take. Take some time to write things down. Where do you want to run it from? How much money are you willing to invest in it? Are you planning to work alone or hire from the get go. Asking yourself questions like these in the beginning can easily hurdle some of the things that you are thinking about.

2. Register! Register your business name and what type of business you have at your local Chamber of Commerce and with your business associations. This can also help you get some ready contacts that you can use when your business is up and running.

3. Get your equipment. Because it’s a house cleaning business, you can easily just gather the equipment in your own home. It’s best to bring your own equipment with you when you go clean houses, that way you don’t waste time borrowing your materials. If your clients want you to use a specific solvent, they’ll most likely provide it for you. You can start today with just your vacuum cleaner, a duster and rags that you use to clean your own home.

4. Print up marketing materials. A good business card can help net you those important clients. Print up a brochure with your pricing and services. Not sure how to price? Call up other cleaning services in the area and compare your own.

5. Make use of your contacts. Tell people about your business, after all, the best promotion is through word of mouth. You can easily get clients in your own family. Have an aunt with a new baby too harassed to think about cleaning her home? Do it for a fee. Do a great job and the calls will start coming in.

These are the few basic steps that you need to start your own house cleaning business. It’s simple and it’s easy. Why work and be a drone when you can be your own boss? It’s easy to start your own house cleaning business. As long as people have houses, condos and apartments, you’ve got a job.
