As the festive season grows closer the need for amazing outfits and evening wear to wow your friends with also grows. The problem with a lot of parties though is the need to wear a coat because it is so cold outside, this brings with it the problem of having to check it in and all the queuing is a real pain when all you want to do is party!
But Hurrah! This necessity is rapidly becoming a thing of the past with the introduction of what I like to call ‘Taxi to table wear’ When going out in the evening you want to look at your most glamorous and alluring – you don’t want to spoil your evening wear with having to wear a drab wool coat over the top of it. Bit thanks to ‘Taxi to table wear’ this is no longer a problem
So what is ‘Taxi to table wear’? It is functional yet glamorous garments that keep you warm without running the look of your evening dress. Think pashminas, these were the original purveyors of ‘Taxi to table wear’, warm enough to keep you cosy on your journey but not too bulky to clutter the back of your chair at the event. The pashmina however when not worn properly can look a bit like a blanket or oversized scarf rather than an attractive shawl and that is where the new ‘Taxi to table wear’ comes in.
There are the obvious scarves which can keep a chill off your back and neck – these come in a range of embroidery and beaded varieties as well as silk and beautifully dyed versions.
The bolero or shrug is the ultimate in ‘Taxi to table wear’ - glamorous and yet just large enough to keep you in the pink whilst you walk down the red carpet in freezing conditions. The best thing about the shrug is that it doesn’t spoil the look of your outfit. The worst thing about it is that if you have to be outside for a considerable length of time you might still get a little chilly.
The ultimate in ‘Taxi to table wear’ though has to be the recent spate of Harry Potter esque coats. They give you an air of mystery whilst still keeping you nice and snug. You might still have the cloakroom problem but that depends what you wear underneath or perhaps you could just weave a spell over the whole event and then you won’t need it at all
